Second vessel MSC certified

Aker BioMarine Antarctic’s second krill harvesting vessel, Antarctic Sea, has been added to Aker BioMarines Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification.

Antarctic Sea was purchased by Aker BioMarine Antarctic in October 2011 and after rebuilding the ship, installing new processing equipment and fishing gear, Antarctic Sea began harvesting in June 2012.

Antarctic Conservation Body, CCAMLR, Establishes Protected Areas in the Southern Ocean

The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) met in Hobart, Australia, from 24 October to 4 November for CCAMLR- XXX (2011) meeting. During the two-week meeting, CCAMLR established a framework of marine protected areas in the Southern Ocean, designed to preserve the ecosystem and further conservation goals in the Antarctic ecosystem while also ensuring that the krill fishery will be able to continue sustainable harvesting practices in the region.
