QRILL™ is an excellent ingredient in salmon feeds
QRILL™ derivatives deliver valued benefits in critical phases of salmon farming. Marine phospholipids, with astaxanthin, have anti inflammatory properties. The profile of essential amino acid is ideal, providing key nutrients for growth. In addition, the combination of amino acids significantly improves the attraction of the feed, increasing uptake and growth performance.

Start feeding:
QRILL™ provides key nutrients for start feeders, increasing growth in the first phases. .

Transfer and other critical phases:
QRILL™ in a salmon or trout diet at 7–15% increases feed uptake, improves growth and reduces FCR during transfer to seawater. Increased growth in this phase has implications for the whole grow out period until harvest. With QRILL™, the fish can be harvested either heavier or earlier.

Establishing an effective feeding response in recently transferred smolts is critical to achieving optimum growth performance, improved seawater adaption and resistance to disease. Polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) such as eicosapentanoic acid (EPA) improve resistance to high salinity. Salmon increase the levels of these fatty acids in the cell membrane of the gill after they have been transferred to higher salinity. QRILL™ contains a unique profile of the key fatty acids as well as high levels of marine phospholipids.

Astaxanthin in QRILL™ is highly bioavailable and can constitute the main part of the pigment needed post transfer.

Tests with QRILL™ show it is highly palatable and has an excellent nutritional value. QRILL™ is recommended in periods of stress and disease outbreaks for maintenance of growth and performance.
- Disease outbreak or disease danger
- Medicated feeds
- Temperature- or environmental changes
- Other times of stress

Broodstock diets:
The anti inflammatory properties of marine phospholipids and astaxanthin make QRILL™ an ideal ingredient in broodstock diets. Astaxanthin is also important in broodstock maturation, affecting ovarian and embryonic development.
